Finishers’ club FOR WOMEN retreat
FAQ
What’s the difference between a workshop and a retreat?
Workshops are designed to facilitate learning. Retreats are sacred spaces that pull you out of the everyday. We’ll create the room for you to set aside what’s holding you back.
Who’s leading this retreat?
Brandi Larsen will be your host and guide for this retreat. Brandi is a former journalism and publishing executive who helped create New York Times bestsellers, wrote stories that earned Emmy nominations, and persisted in spite of the impossible. She’s spoken at Harvard Business School, Book Expo America, and Writer’s Digest Annual Conference, among others. Brandi designed the first Finishers’ Club retreat because she needed the space and camaraderie to finish her own creative project. She’s excited to create this retreat and community for mothers.
When is it?
The Finishers’ Club for Mothers retreat is from May 6-8, 2021. We’ve created options for each mother to come together on retreat in the way that suits her best. Choose between two-night stays in the Main House or Off-Site accommodations, commuter options, and a Saturday-only retreat schedule.
What do I need to bring?
The tools and materials you need to finish your project. For most participants, that is a fully-charged laptop and headphones. There will be outlets available for charging.
Is there WiFi?
Yes, for those who need to work with an internet connection, there is WiFi available in and around the home.
Is there food?
Yes! Lunch will be served. We’re fans of grazing-all-day so there will be fresh fruit and snacks available, as well as coffee, tea, and refreshing water. In Closing Circle, there will be a delicious dessert. Bagels and fruit will be provided for Main House and participants staying in Off-Site accommodations.
I have a dietary restriction. Can you accommodate?
Yes, please tell us what you need during registration.
Is there parking?
Yes, right outside.
Who comes to your retreats?
Mothers who want to finish their work. Mothers who need time away. We’ve had women with a six-decade span sit at the Community Table together — each has come away with meaning, determination, gratitude, and connection to the women beside her.
Are payment plans available?
Yes. Contact Brandi and we’ll do our best to work with your budget.
Are scholarships available?
Yes. Brandi believes that cost should not stop you from finishing your project. Brandi sets aside a limited number of seats for scholarship attendees. Complete the scholarship application.
What is your cancellation policy?
Life happens. Brandi understands that and will do her best to work with you. Brandi will provide a full refund up until 30 days prior to the event. Following that, she will provide a credit to attend another Finishers’ Club retreat, good for two years. Any cancellations occurring within 24 hours of the event are non-refundable.
I’m scared. What if I don’t…?
It’s okay to be afraid. You’re not alone. Part of what makes this retreat such an incredible experience is the community of mothers who are coming together. We’re all scared of something: not being good enough, not being present enough, not being enough. Every one of us is fighting for the time and mental clarity to get there. The retreat space is designed to help acknowledge fears and persist through them.
That’s great. But, really, what if I don’t finish?
It will be okay. You will still be loved. So many of us come to Opening Circle exhausted. It takes so much to raise our hands and say, “I need a break. I need time for me.” This retreat is designed to fill your cup; it’s not one more pressure on the never-ending list. It’s been our experience that seeing the supportive community of women — each working on her own goal — strengthens and energizes participants. Part of the magic of the retreat space is that women feel more alive and engaged as they reconnect to their own work. Brandi helps nourish both you and your project during our time together. Even if, right now, finishing feels too far away from where you are, giving yourself the time and trust will mean that you are further along than if you hadn’t tried.
But I want to finish! Is that okay too?
Absolutely! During Closing Circle, we will celebrate the distance we traveled, the relationships we created, and ideas on how to recreate the magic as we ease back to the outside world.
How do I connect with the community following the retreat?
So much of Brandi’s work manifests in connecting creative people to each other. For participants who opt-in, we share a contact list of the women at each retreat. We also host a Facebook group for participants and a Finishers’ party following the retreat.
Is there anything else I should know?
Because the home is a historic century home, it is not handicap accessible. If you need accommodations, please contact us, and we’ll do our best to give you what you need. The home is right on the lake and Cleveland is known for its surprising weather patterns so please dress comfortably for your body. The home is a space that holds people’s hopes, dreams, accomplishments, and prayers; there are spiritual references in the artwork on the property. We hope you’ll love and respect the energy of the home — we do.
Give yourself the gift and permission of time.

You felt so excited when you started writing. There was so much energy. Momentum. The world was almost in your hand. Then, life happened.
Your project started to fall away. Maybe it moved in your mind from the thing you couldn’t wait to do to the thing it looked like you’d never do.
That doesn’t have to be the way the story ends.
Join us from May 6-8, 2021 at The Finishers’ Club for Mothers, a retreat to give you the time, space, and community to finish what you’ve started. Meet a community of mothers just like you as you take your project off your to-do list and share it with the world.

You may have so many projects that it’s hard to decide which is the best one for this retreat. The truthful answer is the one that’s been nagging at you. Some examples from past participants include finishing podcasts, book chapters, poems, and songs; finalizing screenwriting goals; and launching websites. Finishing a writing project is a natural fit, especially options such as creating an agent or editor pitch letter; polishing an essay, article, or talk; or finalizing your short story, chapter, or book proposal so the pieces are ready to share with the world. You’ll pick the right one — we believe in you.
It’s almost impossible to push everything aside and do for yourself. But, the world needs your work, and you need the space to finish it.
